Palaiokastro is located ten kilometers north of Polygyros, in the Holomontas mountain range. The village was proclaimed a traditional settlement in 1978. At the north of the settlement, in the place “Palekastro”, the ruins of an old castle are preserved, from which the village was named. In Palaiokastro the inhabitants maintain the customs of their country. A typical example is the custom of the “Fotharades” Theophania, which is a representation of an event dating back to the years of the Ottoman domination.
