Pefkohori or Kapsochora is a big settlement of the prefecture of Chalkidiki. It is administratively owned by the Municipality of Kassandra of the Region of Central Macedonia. It is located approximately 105 km from Thessaloniki and is surrounded by a pine forest, as its name implies.

Ancient archaeological evidence is believed to exist near Pefkohori, an ancient settlement, which is identical to the ancient Aigai. The old name of the village was Kapsochora and was probably founded at the end of the 16th century. Throughout the Ottoman domination, it was one of the twelve villages on the peninsula, and it was a bastion of the Gaganpur Aga. In the northwest part of the harbor, where ships nowadays are moored, ruins of a Roman settlement were found. In the same area a coin treasure was discovered with Lysimachos, who was the king of Thrace. Around 1590 in the area is mentioned the Great Metro “Ander” of the Monastery of Iveron, which was expropriated before the war. Today, only the semi-destroyed windmill is preserved. During the Ottoman domination, like all the other villages on the peninsula, it was taxed at the basilica of Gazaanfer Aga, while administratively belonged to the Kalamaria tribe. The inhabitants of Pefkohori participated in the revolution of 1821. Major fighters of the revolution of 1821 were Georgios Giannakis, Antonios Ioannou, Ioannis Kotzas and others.

Pefkohori, in addition to the beautiful sandy beach that is within the settlement, is close to excellent beaches that attract many visitors every year. It is probably the second most cosmopolitan part of Kassandra during the summer months after Kallithea. In Pefkohoritha you will find organized hotel facilities, luxurious villas and rooms to let. The streets below the main road that crosses the village up to the beach become pedestrian walkways giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy their walk on the coastal road and the narrow streets of the village with the shops.
