Metamorphosis is a coastal holiday settlement of the Chalkidiki region. It is a beautiful, green tourist village at the beginning of Sithonia, built on the sea with a city plan. It is the seat of the local community of Metamorphosis with a permanent population of 600 inhabitants, including the homonymous settlement and Metochi, which is a monastery of John the Baptist with 69 inhabitants. It belongs to the municipal unit of Ormylia of the municipality of Polygyros. Geographically, it is located in the bay of Toroneos Gulf, at the beginning of the Sithonia Peninsula, on a wooded slope and next to the sea.

The Metamorphosis is one of the refugee villages of Chalkidiki. The refugees settled after 1925 on one of the most beautiful coasts of Toroneos Bay. Its inhabitants are refugees from Asia Minor, are hospitable and well-prepared, ready to offer their valuable services to local and foreign tourists. The area of ​​Metamorphosis, before the establishment of the Asia Minor refugees in 1925, was a monument of the Dionysios Monastery of Mount Athos and the original site of the Monastery dedicated to the Prophet Saint John the Baptist.

The main occupation of the inhabitants has to do with tourism. As a tourist village it is probably one of the most beautiful of Northern Greece, it is built on a green slope of ancient pine trees, by the sea, the golden sandy beaches and the clear blue sea. The beach of the village attracts many visitors and is awarded with Blue Flags. It has a cool summer and a mild winter. In Metamorphosis the first children’s camp of the Ministry of Education was established in 1950.
