The mountain Holomontas of Chalkidiki constitutes “Site of Community Protection” of the NATURA 2000 network with code GR1270001. The mountain, with the highest peak at 1165m, is located in the wider area of the municipalities of Arnaia, Polygyros and Zervochorion. The protected area of the mountain occupies an area of 155,436 acres. The mountain consists of wooded hills with fir, beech, pine, oak trees and others. Rivers or lakes do not exist. There are remarkable species of mammals and reptiles, and many birds. The trees of Holomontas has been used since ancient times in shipbuilding. Today it is used in the mines, in the construction of objects, while Christmas trees are grown in the area.
