Tradition says that at the beginning there was a small chapel and a water source next to it. At this source it is said that each year, on the eve of the feast, a deer descended and drank water. Villagers grabbed it, slaughtered it, and offered it as food to the pilgrims on the feast day. A year later another deer came and it was slaughtered immediately without drinking water. No other deers have been coming since then. So in this little church just before the rags and after the summer, the Ormylliotes took 2 days for rest and joy. Each year, 12 Ormylliotes, all family men, took care of the organisation of the festival.

In recent years the festival begins one week earlier, as there are plenty of events. There is a musical evening, gymnastics demonstrations , various exhibitions (photography, sculptures, etc.), traditional choir nights and traditional dances with Ormylia dance groups and / or other regions and concerts. On the same day of the Feast, the Feast of Divine Liturgy takes place, followed by the “curbane”, that is the folk feast.
