LocationKrimni

Krimni is a settlement in the Municipality of Polygyros, in the prefecture of Chalkidiki. It is located in the Northern Chalkidiki. The main occupations are agriculture and livestock farming. The village of Krimni, in its location today, was built after the earthquake of 1960. The name of the village is Krimni from Krimnos and Grimia or Gremiani or Grimmin from the word cliff, because indeed the old village of Krimni was built on the cliff. In the old village of Krimni, in the ruins, there is the restored temple of Agios Nikolaos, a basilica built in 1860.

On the northern side of the new village of Krimni and at a distance of about 2,5 km. to the torrent of “Tranos Lakos” there is the newly built chapel of Saint Paraskevi in the place of the old one, a truly magnificent location of plane trees and walnuts. Each year on the 26th of July there is a three-day celebration (feast) happening in honor of the Saint.

The inhabitants of Krimni participated in the revolution of 1821. Some of the great fighters of the revolution of 1821 were Ioannis Fotis and his brother Athanasios. The cultural association called “DOXA CRIMNIS” organizes events throughout the year. A cultural and sports club with the name of the village is also active
