Kassandrino – Mola Kalyva

In the center of the Kassandra peninsula, in a green valley with a beautiful pine-covered horizon, the village of Kassandrinos spreads out. A traditional village with 100 houses and 250 permanent residents. In the past, during the winter the village was occupied by their ranchers and cattle as a permanent residence.

The village was named after the neighboring village of Kassandreia, because it was where the big farmers lived. The valley of the village was inhabited by both ancient and Byzantine times. During the Revolution of 1821, the Turks completely destroyed it. Since 1826, residents have begun to return and rebuild the village.

The church of the Assumption of the Virgin was built in the 1950s by paved local stone. It celebrates on August 15th. At a distance of 3 km. of the village, in a magnificent location with centuries-old trees, the beautiful chapel of Saint Georgios is built. Every year in the memory of the Saint (April 23) a traditional feast is organized. The most important products of the village are oil and honey of excellent quality.

To the south of the village at a distance of 6 km and near the sea, is the settlement Mola Kalyva, belonging to the Kassandrinos community. It is said that it was named after a guard the monks had in the area. He was called Mola and lived in a hut (kalyva). So it was called Mola Kalyva. Mola Kalyva with its tranquil, paradise, dry climate and its endless beach is ideal for lovers of tranquility and natural beauty. A beach that combines the crystal-clear sea of ​​the Aegean with the beauty of the green landscape.
