… In Constantinople, in the 5th century, there was found by the king Leo I of Thrakos (457-474), the so-called Makélli (λ), a spring of holy water from Virgin Mary, near whom the king built a magnificent temple dedicated to Zoodochos or the Life-Bringing Source, which is Virgin Mary herself. Our Lady is called this, because she received in her bowels the donor and the ruler of her life, Christ. Thus, for the holy water that was constantly flowing and providing remedies next to the temple, there could not be a better name. The inauguration of this temple took place on Friday of the Easter week, and since then it has been established that our Church celebrates the memory of the inauguration of this temple every year on the same day.
