Taxiarchis is a large settlement built near the top of Holomontas at an altitude of 650 meters in a wooded area. It is a Municipal District of Polygyros in the prefecture of Chalkidiki. The name of the village is due to Archangel Michael, whose temple was built on the site of an older temple, royal temple, which was destroyed by the Turks in 1821 and then renovated in 1914. The main occupations are livestock and logging. An important part of the income comes from growing fir, for Christmas trees. It is not known when the village was founded. His oldest name was Lukovi. The area that is the village was a relic of the Monastery of Dochiariou and the inhabitants were its workers. It is also testified that the inhabitants of Taxiarchis came from Pieria, from the area of ​​Olympus, where there was a village called “Loukovi” or “Lokovi”. This village still exists under the name Petra and because of an epidemic it was abandoned at that time. His inhabitants fled to Holomont and built the Taxiarchis. In 1821 the village was destroyed by the Turks during the Chalkidiki revolution. Major local chieftains in 1821 were Agelis Radavellas and Avgerinos Kambouris. Also from Lokomotive was the 19th century printer Georgios Melistagis, who had the headquarters of his printing house in Ermoupolis of Syros.
