Sana is a small municipal apartment in the municipality of Polygyros in the prefecture of Chalkidiki. Its located at an altitude of 290 meters and are 17 kilometers away from Polygyros. The name “Sana” is identical to that of the “Sianes” of the 13th century. The 1850s Pammegiston Taxiarches church is the oldest building in the village today in use

The Palaeolithic-Neolithic Settlement of Sana is located in the location of “Grandist” in the northeast of the village, while in the stream lying on the same hill and on its western bank there was discovered a ceramic furnace of a classical period (2,500 years) in the 1990s. Finally, in the classical cemetery north and below just the Castle of Sano, dozens of tombs have been excavated by ancient people, with a significant number of stolen stolen objects.

The inhabitants of Sano participated in the revolution of 1821, among them was Vasilios Georgios Kolokythas. As in the Balkan wars, in the Great War (APS), the Asia Minor Campaign, the presence of the inhabitants of Sano was great.

An important archaeological site other than the village is located at a distance of 0.5-1.0 km to the west and close to the provincial road of Sano-Dumbia in the location “Palioklissi”. Another important archaeological site in the southeast and at a distance of 0.5-1.0 km, right at the place “Kasteli” or “Kryoneri”, is the Castle of Sanes, where even Mycenaean pottery was found, and which in its perimetric masonry saves the walls at some points up to 1.5-2.0 m. The castle is controlled by a vertical road from the “Pazaroudas” junction of the ancient Egnatia road to Olynthos, during the Roman period.

The traditional events that are organized are the feast of Ai-Lia on July 20th, the feast of the Holy Taxiarhes on November 8th and the “Tsipouro Festival” celebrated on the central square of the village. The first celebration began in 1999 by the winegrowers of the village and due to the operation of traditional tsipouro distilleries. It is organized every year at the beginning of the distillery period, usually on the third Sunday of October.

As far as the sights of Sana are concerned, Fragma-Limni is one of the most remarkable. Apart from a water reservoir, it develops due to the large extent it covers in an excellent wetland. Also for those who love walking in nature, the low hills “Rachondudia” below the ridge of Neefthos, the Ammiti river canyon. From the intersection of “Kerasia” to the village, there is an infinite natural beauty overlooking Lake Volvi, the ancient cemeteries in the Ai-Lia area and the small recently restored 10th-century chapel. The same canyon has given us plenty of palaeontological discoveries of millions of years, located in the small palaeontological museum of Kalamoto. Many of these finds were found on the shores of Sanon’s Landing Canyon.
