Riza is a settlement of the  municipality of Polygyros, in the prefecture of Chalkidiki. It is located in the “Vorista” north of the county. The village probably took its name because it is located at the roots of Holomontas. The village’s history is believed to begin from ancient times.

Main occupations are agriculture and livestock farming. It produces olives and cheese. Sightseeing is the idyllic recreation area of ​​Saint Athanasios. The church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary dates back to 1852 and is a three-aisled basilica.

The village of Riza, beyond its long historical tradition, has to show great figures in the military as well as in the political field, influencing not only the life of the country but also of Greece as a whole. From Riza were the chiefs of the revolution of 1821, Vassilios Athanasios and Athanasios Nikolaou Chalkiotis (father of the history professor Nikolaos Chalkiopoulos).
