Nea Triglia is a town, a municipal district of the Municipality of Nea Propontida, located at a distance of about 4 km from the west coast of Chalkidiki to Thermaikos and its real estate extends to the coastline. Nea Triglia is a village consisting of local residents and refugees who fled to the village after their uprooting from the homelands of Asia Minor and East Thrace.
The village, before the refugees arrived, was called Souflar, while the villages or towns from which the Minorites came from are Triglia, Veletter, Apollonias, Kavouklia, Kalolimno, Peladari and Kisderved. The Thracians came from the villages Stern, Gan and Panido.
The wider area of the Municipality of Triglia was inhabited since prehistoric times. In addition to the palaeontological find of the skull of the archangel discovered in the Petralona district, there are many findings of the prehistoric classical and Byzantine period scattered throughout our region.
During World War II, Bulgarians and Mongolians settled in Nea Triglia. Indeed, two residents of the settlement were executed by Mongolians, while the village was fired by the Germans.
The church of Saint Athanasios dates back to the 19th century. Metohi, the Majestic beachfront building, as well as the Byzantine Xini fountain, built in the courtyard of the church of Saint Paraskevi, are some of the monuments.
