Lakkoma

LocationLakomma

Lakkoma is a large semi-mountainous settlement and the homonymous Municipal District of the Municipality of Propontis in the prefecture of Chalkidiki and is the first village at the entrance of Chalkidiki from the prefecture of Thessaloniki. The inhabitants are engaged in industry and agriculture. In the area there is a Biotechnical Ecological Park for biofuel production. In the village there is a Sports Center with Olympic standards and a guesthouse for the hospitality of athletes from all over the world. Inside a pine-filled place, there is also a refreshment room.

Lakkos is a refugee village with residents from the unforgettable Pontos and from Eastern Thrace. The Pontian inhabitants came after the great uprooting of the colonized land of the Corinthians (Ordo), the Hashamana-Chashasi area and the villages of Goliqi, Mesalan, Pernecuk, Yaribel, Antouz, Mesunite, Melet and Fatsa. The difficulties they faced were many and humanly inaccessible, but they managed with unimaginable diligence, patience and perseverance to cultivate the then barren land, with effort and sacrifices to root, to create families and to advance in all fields. They have preserved themselves and spread to us the customs and customs, traditions, culture and history as they brought them from the unforgiving Pontus.

In the Pontic of Lakkoma Association museum there is a Folklore Museum, a permanent Photographic Exhibition (both from Pontos and the life of the village residents from the previous decades) as well as a Library.

It is worth visiting the chapel of Prophet Elias, which is situated on the top of a hill, in the northeast of Lakkoma, which dates back to the Byzantine years. From there, there is also the fertile plain and the surrounding hills. It is worth visiting for the fine layout of the exterior space (park with stone sculptures, from local material, the traditionally known, white-washed, building stone) and the panoramic view of the surrounding hilly area and the fertile plain.
