Geroplatanos is a village of the municipality of Polygyros. Its position is on the outskirts of Mount Holomontas. The story of Geroplatanos dates back to 1795 when seven families came and built houses from the Liavska area, 6 kilometers north of the village. Until 1928 the village was called “Tublica” which means hot water, which comes from the roots of the plane tree. From 1928 he was named Geroplatanos.

The cultural association called “Geroplatanos” organizes events throughout the year. Sightseeing is the chapel of the Virgin Mary, in a location full of plane trees, holly and walnut trees. The three-aisled basilica of Agios Dimitrios, which is another monument in the village, dates back to 1836.

The name of the village is due to the perennial plane tree (Platanus orientalis), which is 20m high. and 15 m perimeter and is located in the square of the village. Separate for its natural beauty but also for the admiration of admiration, which provokes the visitor with its imposing character. It has even been declared (1976) a preserved monument of nature. Its branches are huge and there is a source at its roots.

In 1854, the Holocaust of the Geroplatanos took place by the Turks as a retaliation for the outbreak of the Revolution in Halkidiki. Then, the Turks burnt alive six young girls. The Church recognized them as neo-martyrs and their memory is honored in the Parish of Saint Demetrius Geroplatanos on the first Sunday of May of each year.
